Hello everyone!
I've been very busy working on a huge project and so although I wasn't writing regular blog content or filming any video blogs, I was keeping a file on interesting news events in coaching to share with you when I got around to writing a newsletter again.
Fortunately, there was one particular story that stood out (I'll explain why the others didn't shortly): The Worldwide Business and Executive Coaching Summit 28 July to 18 August 2011.
Beside the fact that 20+ of the most in-demand speakers for coaching-related topics make up the line up, the thing that I like MOST about this event is all the free pre-event stuff!
All of the presenters have offered a 20 minute or so video with NO PITCHES allowed in the content!!! These will be available on the website for you to enjoy at no cost or obligation.
I really love this approach for its authenticity and ethics. I must admit, I get really tired of wading through all the commercial pitching before I get to any practical and usable content. This way, we all get the first dose of great value we expect from the very beginning before anyone even has to commit to anything (other than sharing their email address).
And...I told you I'd explain why the other things I collected ended up not getting used. I receive a lot of emails...and I know I haven't signed up for these lists! People try to sell their products to the coaching community all the time. Sometimes, there are some really good products and services, while other times I recognise people must really NOT understand the ethics and boundaries of coaching or they wouldn't try to sell us certain products or set up certain alliances. Most of all, I get requests to promote other people's stuff and when I click on the links, I realise that they aren't selling it very well themselves. I certainly know what this is like as I continue to improve how I present my products and services...so no judgement from me about the development path others are on. I do respect however that I need to refer people to websites which contain credible information, look good and are suitable for sharing as best as I can determine. And I'm sharing less and less with readers these days because I'm finding there's less and less suitable stuff to share. (And I'm sure I fall into that category with others too...and that's OK as it challenges me to continue to improve.)
