From Michael Licenblat - Stop Thinking Yourself to Death

My friend and colleague, Michael Licenblat, wrote this great blog entry recently on overthinking. Definitely worth a read!

There is an old saying that ‘If a job’s worth doing – it’s worth doing right’. The meticulous attention to detail and accuracy of results applies very well to customer service, meeting budgets and general compliance. When it comes to confronting an unhappy client, presenting a profit loss to a manager, or making cold calls, that excess ‘thinking’ often gets in the way of doing the work.

Top executives need feedback—here’s how they can get it

If you are a subsciber to McKinsey Quarterly, you'll be able to access this great article on how top executives can get feedback from unlikely places. If you're not a subsciber, you can easily sign up.

Here's a snapshot of the article and the link to access follows:

As executives become more senior, they are less likely to receive constructive performance and strategic feedback.  They can get it by calling on their junior colleagues.

James Adonis on Empowerment

Here's another great piece from James Adonis on empowerment (being allowed to make decisions for oneself) and decision fatigue which can get in the way of empowerment be demonstrated well. A great read!

If you ever find yourself in prison, here’s a handy tip: when you’re up for a parole hearing, make sure your lawyer schedules it for early in the morning.

James Adonis on Workplace Enthusiasm

Here's another great piece from James Adonis on workplace enthusiasm and an interesting correlation with toxins. A great read!

Most people think alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine are the main toxins with which we poison our body.  But there’s more that we ingest – sometimes accidentally – that causes harm to our physical form.  The pesticide residue on our fruit and vegetables is one; the chemicals found in processed foods is another; and the pollution we inhale on a busy street is one more.
