Did you know extensive research indicates that every hour of TV you watch cuts approximately 22 minutes from your lifespan?  That was the finding from a study of 11,000 adults released last year by the University of Queensland.  The professors discovered that excessive television is just as bad as smoking and obesity, and sometimes worse.

From Michael Licenblat - Stop Thinking Yourself to Death

My friend and colleague, Michael Licenblat, wrote this great blog entry recently on overthinking. Definitely worth a read!

There is an old saying that ‘If a job’s worth doing – it’s worth doing right’. The meticulous attention to detail and accuracy of results applies very well to customer service, meeting budgets and general compliance. From Gallup: Breaking the Fear Barrier by Tom Rieger

I've just received a promotion from Gallup (a highly trusted source!) about Tom Rieger's new book Breaking the Fear Barrier

A company's worst enemy is not always the competition.  Sometimes it's the fear that lives within its own walls.

So says Breaking the Fear Barrier: How Fear Destroys Companies From the Inside OUt and What to Do About It, the latest book from Gallup Press.

Beyond Depression and Addiction

My dear friend and colleague, Claire Stretch, was recently interviewed on one of the Australian news programmes on depression, which she has posted on her website with regular blogs on depression and addiction.

Check out Claire's blog and also watch the short video.

Top executives need feedback—here’s how they can get it

If you are a subsciber to McKinsey Quarterly, you'll be able to access this great article on how top executives can get feedback from unlikely places. If you're not a subsciber, you can easily sign up.

Here's a snapshot of the article and the link to access follows:

As executives become more senior, they are less likely to receive constructive performance and strategic feedback.  They can get it by calling on their junior colleagues.

James Adonis on Empowerment

Here's another great piece from James Adonis on empowerment (being allowed to make decisions for oneself) and decision fatigue which can get in the way of empowerment be demonstrated well. A great read!

If you ever find yourself in prison, here’s a handy tip: when you’re up for a parole hearing, make sure your lawyer schedules it for early in the morning.
